North Lombok, insightnusantara.com - The forced closure of Turtle Rooftop Hostel in Gili Trawangan on January 7, 2025, which was allegedly carried out by a person with the initials Abd and his group, caused great losses for the hostel owner, Kyle Mason, a New Zealand citizen. Feeling harmed, Kyle reported this incident to the NTB Police and asked for legal protection to solve the problem.
Kyle Mason, who operates his business through PT Active Adventure Accommodation, said that Abd's actions did not have a clear legal basis. "Abd has no relationship with my company. He was just trying to blackmail me for his personal benefit. In fact, Abd is known to be facing another legal case that is currently being handled by the prosecutor's office," said Kyle in his statement after reporting to the NTB Police Headquarters, Wednesday (22/1/2025).
In his statement, Kyle revealed that the closure resulted in a financial loss of up to Rp200 million. In addition, hostel employees are forced to lose temporary income, and guests who have booked accommodation are disturbed.
"This action not only harms me personally, but also has an impact on our employees and customers. This is an attempt at blackmail. Abd asked for Rp430 million and threatened to close my business if his request was not fulfilled," said Kyle.
Kyle hopes that the authorities can immediately take firm action so that this case does not drag on. "I believe in the law in Indonesia and hope that justice is enforced. Actions like this create a bad precedent, especially for foreign investors who want to contribute to the tourism sector in Indonesia," he added.
