North Lombok, insight Nusantara.com - A foreign citizen (WNA) from England, Tony Harrison (80), died while doing snorkeling activities in the waters of Gili Trawangan, Pemenang District, North Lombok Regency, Wednesday (26/3).
Based on the police information obtained, this incident took place around 10.30 am in the waters in front of Wah Resort. The victim and the group boarded the Gili Bahari 07 boat to snorkel around the Turtle Point spot. At that time, the victim was about five meters from the shore and ten meters from the boat.
"After approximately ten minutes in the water, the victim was suddenly found floating and did not respond," explained the North Lombok police chief, AKBP Agus Purwanta,S.I.K
Then, the tour guide and the group immediately gave first aid and took the victim to the beach. However, the effort did not yield results. The victim was then evacuated to the Warna Clinic for further medical assistance.
"Unfortunately, the treating doctor stated that the victim had passed away," said Agus.
Until this news was released, the authorities are still coordinating the further process of the death of the WNA.
This incident adds to the list of marine tourism accidents in the waters of Gili Trawangan. Related parties are expected to increase supervision and safety for tourists who do water activities in the area. (zett)
