East Lombok, insightnusantara.com – Thousands of people gathered to witness the vibrant Tiu tradition, a mass horse-riding event held by the community of Jantuk Village, Sukamulia, East Lombok, in celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1 Shawwal 1446 Hijri (Lebaran, in Sasak). This age-old tradition has been passed down for generations, serving as a special moment for locals to celebrate their victory with a strong sense of unity.
After performing the Eid prayer and visiting family and relatives, the people of Jantuk enthusiastically take part in Tiu. The village roads transform into an impromptu arena where hundreds of majestic horses gallop proudly, captivating both locals and visitors from outside the region.

This year, a total of 280 horses joined the event, ridden by both Jantuk residents and those with ancestral ties to the village.
Sukamulia Police Chief, AKP Fathurrahman, praised the event for upholding the values of togetherness and strengthening social bonds.
"We fully support the Tiu tradition as an integral part of Jantuk’s cultural heritage in celebrating Eid. Thanks to the collaboration between security forces, subdistrict and village officials, and the organizing committee, the event ran smoothly and orderly," he stated.
The Tiu celebration lasts from morning until night, creating a lively and warm Eid atmosphere among the people. More than just entertainment, this tradition symbolizes the deep-rooted spirit of brotherhood and the community’s love for its cultural heritage. (zett)
