North Lombok | insightnusantara.com — The atmosphere ahead of the National Recreational Sports Festival (FORNAS) VIII 2025 in West Nusa Tenggara was colored by sad news. R. Haryo Wijosono (64), a participant from the Yogyakarta contingent, died while snorkeling in the waters of Gili Meno, Gili Indah Village, Pemenang District, North Lombok Regency, Thursday (7/24/2025) morning.
Head of Public Relations of Polda NTB Kombes Pol. Mohammad Kholid, S.I.K., M.M., confirmed the incident. Haryo was listed as a Gate Ball athlete and came with a group of 15 people the day before.
"The victim went into the water around 09.45 Wita with his colleagues. Shortly after that, the victim was found to be unconscious in the water. First aid efforts in the form of CPR were carried out at the location," said Kombes Pol. Kholid in Mataram, Thursday evening.
The victim was then rushed to the Color Clinic, Gili Trawangan, but his life was not saved. The medical side stated that Haryo passed away around 10.15 Wita. Initially, the victim had a heart attack accompanied by stroke complications.
"According to the testimony of witnesses and victim colleagues, he does have a history of heart disease and stroke. After the handling process, the body was immediately evacuated to Bhayangkara Hospital Polda NTB in Mataram," said Kholid.
The family in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has been contacted and received this sad news sincerely. The body will soon be returned to his hometown for the funeral process.
"On behalf of the ranks of the NTB Regional Police, we express our deepest condolences. Hopefully the deceased will get the best place on the side of the Almighty God, and the family left behind will be given strength," said Kombes Pol. Kholid.
R. Haryo Wijosono is scheduled to perform at the FORNAS VIII event in Mataram on July 29-31. This event is a reminder of the importance of physical readiness and health of participants, especially in water recreation activities that require excellent physical condition. ( Red )
